Community Service Project
Hello and thanks for your questions about community service.
We encourage all students to participate in the community service project. It is a great way to help the community and make connections. Community service is a requirement at Casa Roble High School, and participating in middle school helps forge a connection with high school. Many colleges require students to participate in community service, and if students start working in the community at a young age they will be ahead of the curve.
Each year, we ask families to give us ideas of where young people can help the community. These ideas are collected into a list and will be given out to students next week. Students then complete a Google Slides presentation.
If parents feel that their children will not be able to do 10 volunteer hours a Semester , in the community service program. These students will still be expected to complete the Alternative Project : essay, poster, and presentation that go along with community service, but they will not perform the actual community service work. A student will not receive a grade penalty if they choose not to help in the community. Again, these students will still be responsible for a comparable paper, poster, and presentation.

Course Weekly Organization
--------------------------------------------
Weekly Assignments: Mondays students do a pre reading of the chapter being studied that week and vocabulary words and definitions which are homework if not finished in class. Most Tuesdays a Review sheet is assigned in class and if it is not finished it is assigned for homework. Wednesdays the History classes work on a Critical reading article related to the chapter that is being studied. Most Thursdays history classes receive a Study Guide worksheet to complete in class and if it is not completed it is homework. There are many holidays and special events that go on throughout the year so there are variations that happen in this routine. Some weeks students work on a Mini Q essay writing task where they study primary source documents and write a five paragraph essay. Other weeks the students work on a Web research assignment on the particular Historic Civilization being studied. All of this information the students should write down in their Binder Reminder at the beginning of the week so that parents and students are aware of what is being studied.
